In a candid interview with Dan Marston, Chris Jericho shared his unbreakable mindset in the face of critics. The wrestling star refuses to waste any energy on haters. He explained that early in his career, he made a firm decision: “This is my life, this is my decision.” Instead of chasing universal approval, Jericho tunes out the noise and focuses on performing for his loyal fans while winning over new ones. He specifically noted that it is hard to win over haters anyway because they do not want to admit they were wrong.
“I realized you can’t listen to people that tell you you can’t do something. And why the hell do you care what I’m doing anyway? This is my life. This is my decision. This is what I’m going to do.” “And so very early on, to this day I still have that. I don’t care what people think of what I’m doing. I want them to like it, but if they don’t, that’s nothing I can do about it. I try my best to make people like the things that I’m doing. The majority of them do, but some people will hate everything that you do. And that’s fine. You can’t worry about the people that hate what you do because they’re never going to like you ever. Because that’s admitting to themselves that they were wrong.” – Chris Jericho
Jericho has built a legendary career by repeatedly proving the doubters wrong. Told he was too small and flashy in the early 1990s, and later that his prime was over after leaving WWE in 2018, the multi-time world champion responded by becoming AEW’s inaugural World Champion in 2019 and helping establish the promotion as a major force. Now 55, he continues to reinvent himself with compelling characters and fresh storylines, alongside new opponents such as Ricochet and Tommaso Ciampa.
