Chris Jericho Set To Star In Wrestling-Themed Horror Film

Chris Jericho is a longtime horror movie buff, and he also recently made a cameo in the 2022 breakout slasher film, “Terrifier 2.”

Now, Deadline has reported that Jericho is set to lead the cast of a new wrestling-themed horror film, “Dark Match.” The Dept. 9 Studios film just wrapped filming in Edmonton, Canand.

“A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match,” reads a description of the film.

Jericho will star with Ayisha Issa (“Transplant”), Steven Ogg (“The Walking Dead”), Sara Canning (“The Vampire Diaries”), Michael Eklund (“Wynonna Earp”) and Jonathan Cherry (“Goon”).

Jericho wrote on Facebook: “Stoked to announce the killer new flick #DarkMatch that I co-starred in and executive produced! Such a great experience filming in #Edmonton with @dept.9studios and it’s going to blow some minds! I play the EEEVIL cult leader and it was an honor to work with the supremely talented cast, including @ogg_steven, @ayishaissa, @michaelseklund & the awesome @lolofilm! Can’t wait for it to be released…it’s such a creepy, gory flick…perfect for Halloween! @deadline.”

“Dark Match” was written and directed by Lowell Dean (“Wolfcop”) and produced by Jon MacDonald, who also serves as an executive producer along with Jericho. Dean said of the film: “It’s been a blast filming in Edmonton and working every day with such a talented cast and crew. I’m excited for the opportunity to work with Dept. 9 Studios and for the producer’s support in bringing Dark Match to life.”

Jericho has appeared in numerous films including “MacGruber,” “Sharknado 3” and the 2019 re-boot of “Jay and Silent Bob.”

Dept. 9 Studios was founded by MacDonald in 2019, and the company develops and produces its own films and TV in addition to renting their 26,000 square-foot facility to other parties.
