Linkin Park has a new greatest hits album set to drop on April 12. Nearly seven years ago, the group disbanded after the sudden passing of singer Chester Bennington.

Last year, Linkin Park bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell was asked if he thinks Linkin Park will ever write and record new music. Optimistically for Linkin Park fans, the bassist hinted at doing something again under the Linkin Park banner in the future.

“The best answer I can give is I think that we will do something again at some point,” the bassist said. “I think we’ll do, hopefully, new music. And I would love to play some shows.”

Last week, the band dropped a previously unreleased track, “Friendly Fire,” which was recorded prior to Bennington’s passing during the sessions for the “One More Light” album in 2017. Guitarist Brad Delson said the song was one of the band’s favorites during the recording of “One More Light,” but they couldn’t get it fine-tuned in time to be included on the album.

“Something about it wasn’t quite right so as close as it got to the finish line, we chose to set it aside for later,’ Delson told The Daily Mail

“When we started looking for an unreleased track to include on our greatest hits collection, I was blown away by the power of the song, the power of the storytelling, the power of the vocal, the sonic landscape and I actually thought that it was closer than maybe we had realized at the time,” the guitarist said.

Band co-founder/rapper/guitarist Mike Shinoda added: “Each song in this collection is both a singular moment on our timeline and an evolving story that is as much ours as it is yours. From our first release, One Step Closer to the brand-new Friendly Fire, this tracklist spans all our chapters so far.”
