After MVP pointed out that Triple H didn’t have a great track record of booking black wrestlers, fans began to study who he had been utilizing over the past few years. Subsequntly this would indicate that MVP may have a valid point, and therefore, during Bad Blood’s post-show press conference, Triple H would be asked to address this, with him saying, “I don’t see the color, I don’t see the nationality, I see the talent.”
And while Triple H likely believed this would end the criticism, it would actually increase it, with many fans on social media saying it was a clichéd response that came across as dismissive. However, Booker T has now come to the defense of his former in-ring rival, saying on his podcast that he doesn’t think anyone’s omission from premium live events is due to race and that the “cream is gonna rise to the top every time.”
“Has there been bias in the wrestling business, in the wrestling company before? Yes, there has, but do I think it’s race-related or anything like that, or someone being belittled on purpose? I don’t … I’m gonna say, okay, what guys are we talking about that we saying that should be on the pay-per-view? Are they in any angles to warrant a reason for being on the pay-per-view? I don’t think it’s a black-and-white thing. I don’t think it’s a race thing at this stage of the game. I think if you’re talented enough if you’re good, cream is gonna rise to the top every time.”
In the past, Triple H faced accusations of racism, dating all the way back to when he dressed up as The Rock for D-Generation X’s memorable parody of The Nation of Domination. Additionally, some claim his rivalry with Booker T ahead of WrestleMania 19 was built around race after he said, “People like you don’t deserve it” when discussing the World Heavyweight Championship. Yet, it should be noted that at the time, Triple H went out of his way to deny it was racist and claimed that Booker T also didn’t see it that way either.
