Adam Copeland, formerly known as Edge during his time with WWE, made serious shockwaves in the wrestling world with his AEW debut at Wrestledream last Sunday. Copeland entered to the familiar tones of “Metalingus” by Alter Bridge to save Sting. The show ended in a stare-down between Copeland and his longtime former partner, Christian.

Copeland addressed wrestling fans following his debut saying: “As some of you may now know, I’m no longer with WWE. My new home is AEW. I’m excited. Whole new roster. Some familiar faces that I wanted to work with again and a whole set of first ever matches. New challenges, and if you’ve followed my career, you know that’s what I’ve always been driven by.”

His lengthy statement concluded with: “I guess what I’m trying to say is this, if you’ve appreciated my work, you still can, no matter what the initials are. Because I’ll still be bustin my ass everytime I’m out there. This ride isn’t over just yet. Just try to have fun, like it should be. Because trust me I’ll be having fun everytime I’m out there in an AEW ring. Let’s go!”

Alter Bridge commented on Copeland’s AEW debut by reposting his entrance and writing: “Congrats to our good friend @EdgeRatedR.”

During the Wrestledream media scrum, Copeland was asked about getting the rights to the song.

“Alter Bridge are my friends,” Copeland said. “Mark Tremonti, who wrote the song, is a very good friend. That song is with me wherever I go. That was very important to me. I’ve always been very musically motivated and I think it sets the tone for a character and it also sets the tone for Adam to get in that place.”

“That music, from the first time I heard it in Mark’s house, after I dropped a beer in his foyer, after just meeting him, he played that for me with his scratch lyrics on it and I was out with a neck injury. I said, ‘Can I have that song?’ ‘Absolutely, dude.’ We had just met. 20 years later, here we are, I called Mark and I said, ‘what do you think?’ ‘Absolutely. That answer is not going to change.’ That was really pivotal and important to me. It would have felt weird coming out to something else.”
