While speaking to The Stunner, Aleister Black has debunked rumors that his occult tattoos prevented him from competing in the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. In the new interview, the former AEW wrestler noted that tattoo concerns arose five years ago during the early Saudi shows, but they are no longer an issue. His absence was instead simply a creative decision, given so much already planned for the Rumble match.
“No, that’s not true. I was supposed to be in the Rumble, but they were planning to start a story between me and Randy. I felt like if we started that in the Rumble, it would get lost in everything going on … When the Saudi Arabia shows first began years ago, my tattoos did come up in conversation. That’s a fact. At that time, there was concern about how people there might react. That was about five years ago, and it was something I talked about with Vince. But that’s not really an issue anymore.” – Aleister Black
40-year-old Black, real name Tom Budgen, is believed to be an atheist with no personal religious faith. Still, he has been deeply fascinated by world religions, mythology, and the occult since his youth. These elements fuel his dark wrestling persona, not devotion to any faith, his extensive tattoos, now considered a major part of his gimmick, and one of the ways he stands out from his peers.
