WWE superstar AJ Styles has firmly rejected a fan’s suggestion that he should have retired in AEW instead of WWE. Responding to a tweet claiming he “should have finished with the AEW run. He chose the WWE money,” Styles quipped, “I’ll take dumbest things to ever have been said for 100, Alex” in reference to the hit game show Jeopardy! And while some fans still sided with the AEW fan, this exchange highlights Styles’ loyalty to WWE as he prepares to end his legendary career there.
48-year-old Styles, real name Allen Jones, debuted in professional wrestling in 1998, gaining mainstream exposure in WCW before becoming a cornerstone of TNA. There, he won the inaugural X Division Championship, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship three times, and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship twice. Considered “Mr. TNA,” it was a huge shock when he departed TNA at the start of 2014 due to the company being unable to afford him anymore. At the time, this was considered an enormous career blow, although after impressing during a two-year run in New Japan, he signed with WWE and established himself as one of the all-time greats.
