AJ Styles Ends Unwanted Streak At Survivor Series

A piece of wrestling trivia that may surprise you is that up until his victory over Finn Bálor at Survivor Series, AJ Styles hadn’t won a singles match on a pay-per-view or premium live event dating all the way back to Crown Jewel 2019 when he defeated Humberto Carrillo. However, the three-year losing run makes sense when you look at the names he faced, including Edge and The Undertaker plus, he has wrestled several tags and multi-man matches, although it should be noted he did lose most of those as well.

Styles is one of those unique wrestlers who, due to being such a fantastic performer, stays over despite a loss, and often bookers will take advantage of this by piling on the losses knowing other stars are being created. At the same time, little harm is done to the talent doing the jobs. Additionally, Styles has predominantly been a heel over the past three years, so to send fans home happy, he typically needs to put over the babyface. Now though, as a babyface, his victory over Bálor will likely be the first of many wins on big shows.
