On Wednesday, AEW embarked on a nearly month-long residency at the 2300 Arena, known best to 90s wrestling fans as the ECW Arena. This is a big deal for AEW head honcho Tony Khan, as he attended the Philadelphia-based venue as a 13-year-old with his father to watch the authentic version of ECW. And to mark this, it has been reported by those in attendance that AEW was selling ECW-inspired merchandise at the show, with the most sought-after item being a t-shirt that combined the AEW logo with ECW’s.

The original version of ECW, which ran from 1992 to 2001, had both positive and negative impacts on the business. Yet being influential wouldn’t pay the bills, and after the company filed for bankruptcy, WWE purchased the promotion’s assets. This would eventually lead to WWE launching ECW as its own brand, although hardcore supporters of Heyman’s brainchild would quickly lose interest due to it being such a watered-down version.
