Last year, Aerosmith announced their retirement from the touring stage following singer Steven Tyler’s vocal injury. The band’s bassist, Tom Hamilton, hinted at the possibility of the band making some sort of return, but he wasn’t and still isn’t sure of how much the band will actually be able to do.
Sunday night, however, was a step in the right direction for the band and their fans as Tyler performed a brief set of Aerosmith classics at the Hollywood Palladium. Tyler performed six songs at his Janie’s Fund Grammy watch party with help from Hamilton, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, drummer Matt Sorum, Fleetwood Mac keyboardist Mick Fleetwood and Black Crowes’ singer Chris Robinson.
Fleetwood and Bettencourt joined Tyler for a cover of the Extreme hit “More Than Words.” Tyler called it “one of my favorite songs in the whole f*cking world.”
Tyler also did a full-band performance of “Toys In The Attic,” a duet with Lainey Wilson on “Dream On,” and performed “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way” and Led Zeppelin’s “Heartbreaker.”
“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace,” Hamilton previously told WBUR. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big ‘if’, and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction. If we do anything in the future, it would come from him.”
