During the March 11th, 2022, episode of SmackDown, Ridge Holland gave Big E an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on the floor, with the former WWE Champion, unfortunately, landing on his head. It was immediately apparent Big E was injured, and the tag match also featuring Kofi Kingston and Sheamus would conclude in the ring without him.
Subsequently, Big E tweeted that his neck was broken, and while it’s known that it has since healed, it has remained unknown whether he will ever be able to wrestle again. And now, seemingly confirming he has decided to retire, while appearing on What’s Your Story with Stephanie McMahon, he has described his career as “kind of behind me.”
39-year-old Big E decided to pursue pro wrestling after a conversation with Jim Ross, following injuries that derailed his attempts to become a footballer. This led to him being fast-tracked onto the FCW roster, where he immediately grabbed fans’ attention due to his impressive look and undeniable charisma. From there, he became NXT Champion, WWE Intercontinental Champion twice, and an eight-time tag champion. However, his career highlight came in 2021 when he cashed in his Money In The Bank contract against Bobby Lashley, winning the WWE Championship to the delight of fans worldwide.
