WWE May Have Signed Bret Hart To A Lucrative Contract To Prevent Him From Joining AEW

With Dax Harwood and CM Punk repeatedly talking about Bret Hart on social media and the Owen Hart Foundation tournament currently in progress, some fans believe the former WWE Champion is AEW-bound. The prominent rumor has been he’d be managing FTR, however, it appears that the recent indie appearance, which saw Hart appear alongside FTR, won’t be extending to AEW. This is because Dave Meltzer has reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter there is a belief within AEW that Hart has signed a deal with WWE.

It’s FTR with Bret Hart in one corner against Brock Anderson & Brian Pillman Jr., with Arn Anderson in their corner. The reason this is on an indie show and not AEW is that those in AEW are of the belief that Hart quietly signed a lucrative WWE deal that would ban him from appearing on AEW shows. But he is allowed to do indie shows, so that loophole allowed this to happen. This also means they believe he can’t be part of the Owen Hart tournament presentation.Dave Meltzer

While Bret already has a WWE Legends deal allowing the company to make figures and t-shirts of him, this wouldn’t have prevented him from working with AEW as Jake Roberts has the same agreement. Therefore if Meltzer is accurate, Hart has signed a separate contract, effectively allowing him to stay home while getting paid. Obviously, if correct, this would be a big win for Hart. And considering how much money he lost due to Goldberg effectively ending his career with a stiff kick, it’s hard to begrudge him for capitalizing on the rivalry between promotions.
