WWE Hoping Bobby Lashley Can Compete At WrestleMania With His Opponent Now Known

Bobby Lashley went into Elimination Chamber as WWE Champion but lost the title without wrestling. While he would enter the chamber, he’d suffered a storyline concussion when Austin Theory was put through his pod, and Lashley supposedly bumped his head. Initially, it was believed it was done to protect Lashley, who is one of the few wrestlers booked strongly by the company. Yet, it was later revealed he was injured during his match with Brock Lesnar at the Royal and needed surgery.

Initially, it was believed Lashley would be out of action for up to four months and miss WrestleMania. However, Fightful Select has now reported WWE is hoping he is able to compete at WrestleMania, which takes place on April 2nd and 3rd, with Omos penciled in to be his opponent. Precisely how likely this match is to occur isn’t known, but as of Fightful’s initial report, WWE was said to be hopeful.

It seems unorthodox for WWE to put on a match as big as this with little to no build. Still, there are few people on the roster who are capable of having a competitive match with Lashley who aren’t already working with someone else. While always protected, in recent weeks, Omos has been strongly pushed and defeated T-Bar, Apollo Crews, and Commander Azeez in virtual squash matches. Therefore it will be fascinating to see how WWE books the match if it happens, with Lashley being the current bigger star, but Omos being much younger and having the potential to be a long-term main eventer in the future.
