Woman Posthumously Honored With Prestigious Award

Nancy Benoit, best known to wrestling fans as Woman, spent 13 successful years in the business. Yet, due to the nature of her death at the hands of Chris Benoit, in many ways, she has been overlooked in pro wrestling history, with the very mention of her name bringing up a terrible memory most want to forget.

However, the former model has finally received the recognition she so rightly deserves, as Pro Wrestling Illustrated has awarded her their Stanley Weston Lifetime Achievement Award, named after the magazine’s founder and longtime publisher. Previous talents honored with this accolade include Bruno Sammartino, Lou Thesz, Terry Funk, Owen Hart, and Dusty Rhodes, putting her in esteemed company.

Nancy first broke into the business back in 1984 as a valet under the name Fallen Angel for Florida Championship Wrestling, thanks to Kevin Sullivan, whom she later married. From there, she would work for both WCW and ECW, where she managed the likes of Ron Simmons, Ric Flair, The Sandman, 2 Cold Scorpio, Steve McMichael, and future husband, Chris Benoit, establishing herself as one of the most significant managers of the 90s and deserving acknowledgment.
