Early last year, original Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth posted a lengthy audio clip ripping Edward Van Halen’s son and former Van Halen bassist, Wolfgang. Roth ripped Wolfgang for his alleged behavior on the last Van Halen tour.
“This f*ckin’ kid, he’s complaining the entire tour like I’m not paying enough attention to him on stage.” Roth said: “He’s complaining to everybody around me — the business manager, the security guy, the clothing lady — ‘Dave’s not paying enough attention to me.’”
During a recent appearance on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Wolfgang was asked about his current relationship with Roth. “I didn’t put a two-hour-long YouTube rant of completely unfounded lies about said person out of nowhere,” he said. “So I don’t know what I did, but that’s certainly where I sit.”
Asked about being called a “f*ckin’ kid,” Wolfgang said: “I’ve always been a punching bag. So, it’s just whatever… I’m a 34-year-old married man with a third (Mammoth) album. I’m not a kid.”
Wolfgang previously told comedian Marc Maron on his podcast: “I thought (Roth and I) were on good terms, and he actually made a couple YouTube videos about me, about how much he doesn’t like me, which was, like, ‘Okay, cool man.’ He basically just said a bunch of stuff that was true to him, I guess. It doesn’t matter if it’s not true because the people that are going to listen to it will believe it and use it to hate me anyway. So you’ve just gotta move forward. I think the big thing, one of the bigger things is that my dad isn’t around. So I think he just went for what’s still there to kind of point at.”
