William Regal Comments Following His WWE Release

William Regal looked about as likely to be a WWE lifer as anyone having continued been with the company since being re-hired in 2000. Yet, he was deemed surplus to requirements earlier this week, along with names including Samoa Joe and Road Dogg. While he initially didn’t comment publicly on the news, he has now tweeted his appreciation for the company for saving his life back in 1999 and that he doesn’t want to hear any adverse comments about WWE.

Regal’s first run with WWE was nothing short of a disaster after his addiction issues with pain medication and Valium became overwhelming. While he would be released, WWE first sent him to rehab, allowing him to get clean and turn his life around. Then after a brief spell in WCW, he would return to become the star fans know him as today, holding multiple championships and winning the King of the Ring.

What is next for Regal remains to be seen. Although, judging by the outpouring of praise he received on social media from countless wrestlers he worked with, including Sasha Banks and Kevin Owens, it seems highly unlikely another promotion won’t try to bring him in and benefit from his knowledge. However, nobody would blame him if he decided to take an extended break after being with WWE for over two decades.
