Why Steve Austin Didn’t Appear At WrestleMania XL Revealed

WrestleMania XL featured some very notable surprise appearances; however, as it was previously rumored that Steve Austin was in talks about appearing on the show, fans were still left a little disappointed. And now, it has been confirmed via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE did attempt to bring in the Hall of Famer for the role that The Undertaker eventually filled, but they couldn’t reach a financial agreement.

“Undertaker’s gong hit and he choke slammed and took out Rock. Austin was the person originally earmarked for that spot, but in the end they couldn’t reach a financial agreement and Undertaker was put in his place.”

The return of Steve Austin would have made perfect sense from a storyline perspective, considering he and The Rock have wrestled each other three times at WrestleMania in the past. Yet, The Undertaker was a perfectly satisfactory alternative, and truth be told, the 90s star would likely have upstaged Cody Rhodes, which would have taken away from the conclusion of his story.
