Earlier this week, the wrestling world was rocked when the Wall Street Journal reported that WWE’s board had begun investigating Vince McMahon in April for paying a former paralegal $3 million to sign an NDA following an affair. Additionally, it was alleged that WWE’s head of talent relations, John Laurinaitis, was also involved with the women after McMahon passed her “like a toy” to him.
Now, in news that would seem incredible just weeks ago, it has been announced via a press release that Vince McMahon has voluntarily stepped back from his role as CEO and Chairman until the investigation is completed, with his daughter Stephanie McMahon named as his interim replacement. However, Vince will continue his creative role and pledged to accept the findings of the investigation, seemingly indicating he would step away full time if it’s found he acted inappropriately.
Just four weeks ago, Stephanie stunned wrestling fans by announcing she was taking a leave of absence from WWE to spend more time with her family. It was assumed this was because of her husband Triple H’s serious heart procedure. Nevertheless, since then the have been multiple rumors regarding her exit. With it is speculated that a lawsuit filed by MLW against WWE may be the real motivation due to her allegedly being the person who spoke to FOX about not working with the rival promotion. Yet, even if that is the case, it appears that the current crisis in WWE outweighs any concerns by the lawsuit.
