Tony Khan announced on Wednesday that “one of the world’s best wrestlers” would be signing for AEW at their Full Gear pay-per-view. Subsequently, fans have been discussing who this could be with Will Ospreay, Mercedes Mone, and Ronda Rousey, the names most often suggested. However, with it known that Ospreay’s New Japan contract doesn’t expire until February next year, some ruled him out as an option. Still, it now appears it could be him, as PWInsider.com has reported that he has the blessing of the Japanese promotion to hold discussions with other companies.
“PWInsider.com can confirm that sources have indicated that Ospreay has already received the blessing of NJPW to explore discussions with other companies.”
PWInsider.com30-year-old Ospreay made his in-ring debut back in 2012 as the masked character Dark Britannico. Subsequently, he would become a fixture on the British independent circuit, working for promotions like Rev Pro and Progress Wrestling. His big break would come in 2016 when, following the recommendation of Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and AJ Styles, he joined New Japan, where he has been a regular ever since. Additionally, during this time, he has also wrestled for Ring of Honor, AEW, and, most recently, Impact Wrestling.
