Update On Whether Steve Austin Will Wrestle At WrestleMania 39

Recently 58-year-old Steve Austin began sharing workout videos on Instagram, which led to speculation he was getting in shape for something. And with WrestleMania 39 just two months away, many presumed it was for an upcoming match. However, the WWE Hall of Famer would play down such speculation, saying he just wanted to improve his body. And now it has been reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that despite being offered Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns, he has rejected the opportunity to compete.

As far as Austin goes, Steve might be at the show, I wouldn’t be surprised at all. He might do something on the show, but he did in fact turn down wrestling at the show. He was offered Lesnar, he was offered Roman Reigns, he could have named his opponent if he wanted to do it with anybody else. But he did not choose to wrestle on the show.

Austin officially retired in 2003 due to his neck injuries becoming too much for him. Yet over the years, held reveal he was doing better and teased a comeback multiple times, specifically against CM Punk and Brock Lesnar. Nevertheless, when he did not wrestle at WrestleMania 32, which was in his home state of Texas, it appeared any fans hoping to see him ever wrestle again would be disappointed.

Although following Kevin Owens disparaging Texas, Austin announced he’d be at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas for a confrontation. Yet the company was careful never to promote an actual match, and most fans expected Austin to have a faceoff with Owens before hitting a Stunner. In this instance, though, WWE would underpromise and overdeliver as Austin and Owens would have an impromptu No Holds Barred match, where Austin looked in phenomenal physical condition, putting on a match with Owens worthy of being the main event of a WrestleMania.
