Update On What Could Be Next For Gable Steveson Following His WWE Release

Gable Steveson was a controversial signing for WWE due to the weighty allegations made against him back in 2019. Still, with many expecting the Olympic gold medalist to be a combination of the next Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle in the ring, the company decided any backlash was worth recruiting him in 2021. And while he would be given opportunities to prove himself, he failed to live up to expectations and was subsequently released last week, with his big-money contract and lack of progression the driving factor.

However, it isn’t all doom and gloom for the two-time NCAA heavyweight champion, as while he has missed the Olympic trials and can’t win another gold medal, he still has sporting prospects. At least that is according to his manager, Dave Martin, who told Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour via a statement that multiple NFL teams have reached out regarding Steveson’s availability and him attending a mini-camp.

23-year-old Steveson said back in 2020 that working for WWE was “a dream,” and at the following year’s SummerSlam, he would make an appearance before officially signing a contract. Subsequently, he was included in the 2021 draft, indicating he was being fast-tracked to the Raw roster. Yet, that ended up not being the case, and since then, his appearances become sporadic, with him quietly joining the NXT roster in June 2022 but barely being featured.
