Maria Kanellis has unfortunately been dealing with multiple health issues in recent years, although following recent surgery, she has thankfully announced she is cancer-free. Still, despite this great news, her long-term future with AEW and their sister promotion ROH remains unclear, with it previously reported that her current contract would expire at the end of October. However, Fightful Select, has now reported an extension was agreed upon, taking her through January.
“Maria noted recently that her AEW deal would expire at the end of October. However, while inquiring about an update, we’re told that the two sides actually agreed to a short extension that would benefit both sides, which runs through January. We’re told there was supposed to be an announcement regarding the deal, but it didn’t end up happening.”
Fightful Select42-year-old Kanellis, a veteran of the wrestling business, made her mark two decades ago via WWE’s Diva Search, a platform that also launched the careers of Michelle McCool and Christy Hemme. Subsequntly, she would turn a six-year WWE run into a full-time wrestling career by working for both ROH and TNA on more than one occasion. However, while she and her husband, Mike Bennett, have been All Elite since October 2022, it’s currently unclear where their long-term future will be.
