It was shockingly revealed on Sunday that former TNA X-Division Champion Trey Miguel had been released by AEW, with no reason given. However, after it was reported by Bryan Alvarez that the decision came “from up above,” and wasn’t made by Tony Khan, speculation commenced that Miguel’s past homophobic comments may have come back to bite him. And now, seemingly confirming this, the now-unemployed wrestler has taken to X to say, “I’m a different man today.”
For those unaware, in March 2020, Miguel, real name Trey McBrayer, sparked controversy during a heated Facebook exchange with a troll. Responding to insults, he claimed that being gay stemmed from the fear of being rejected by the opposite sex. Obviously, this caused a great deal of backlash, and Miguel subsequently issued a public apology, noting he had two gay friends. And while it looks like TNA was prepared to overlook this, Warner Bros. executives apparently don’t want him appearing on their network.
