Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor surprised fans recently with an announcement from stage hinting at the band’s retirement from touring. He told the crowd at a recent show in Tulsa, Oklahoma: “I think one of the first times we played here, I think maybe it was Cain’s Ballroom, like 80 years ago. I think we were opening for Peter Murphy… and we were playing ‘Head Like A Hole,’ and I could see someone in the back screaming the f*ckin’ lyrics back at me, and I thought, ‘This is all I ever wanted in life, is to connect with somebody like that dude in the back.”
“Anyway, that’s what I think of when I roll into Tulsa. I don’t know if we’re gonna be touring anymore after this, but I’m proud of the show that we’re doing right now. And I’m f*ckin’ grateful that you’ve chosen to spend your evening with us tonight. Thank you very much.”
While Reznor’s announcement in Tulsa may have taken the audience by surprise, the iconic alternative frontman had to make an entirely different address in the middle of the band’s song “Hurt” while performing in Glendale, Arizona after a fight broke out. Reznor stopped the tune and said: “Hey, we’re not here for this shit man. C’mon, hey! Hey! There’s enough bullsh*t happening out there, we don’t need it happening in the f*ck here.”
Security removed the individuals involved, and the incident can be seen in the video below.
