During the 1980s, Stephen King worked with George A. Romero on a movie version of his 1978 novel, but the length was too challenging. Instead, ABC commissioned a $26 million miniseries that aired in 1994 starring Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, and Rob Lowe. Approximately 19 million homes viewed all four parts, and it was critically acclaimed.
In 2018, CBS All Access decided to create their own version of the novel as a miniseries with Stephen King writing an alternative ending, which is bound to intrigue fans of both the book and original miniseries. Their version stars James Marsden, Whoopi Goldberg, Amber Heard, Greg Kinnear, and Marilyn Manson. Manson has also recorded a cover version of the iconic The Doors’ “The End” song for the series.
A trailer has now been released, which you can view below ahead of the series debuting on December 17, 2020.
