Dark Side of the Ring is one of Vice TV’s most successful shows, and despite rumors of the opposite, future seasons are planned. Yet, while the show is popular among fans, it has had a knock-on effect in the business as the episode detailing the now infamous Plane Ride From Hell episode resulted in Ric Fair losing his anticipated job in AEW due to his alleged past behavior. Additionally, Tommy Dreamer would find himself suspended by Impact Wrestling for making comments seemingly supporting Flair’s past actions.
Since then, Jim Ross, who was heavily featured in the episode due to being WWE’s Head of Talent Relations at the time, has revealed he likely won’t appear in future episodes. And now, following Ross’ lead, AEW commentator Tony Schiavone has stated on his podcast that he was asked to participate in future shows but declined after seeing the trouble others have experienced after appearing.
It’s disappointing that Schiavone won’t be appearing, considering his long history in the wrestling business would make him a perfect person to contribute. However, given how he has just reestablished his career, having been on the sidelines for many years, it is understandable he doesn’t want to jeopardize his AEW position. Nevertheless, considering the show’s notoriety, it’s doubtful the producers will struggle to attract knowledgeable participants with Mick Foley, Jim Cornette, RVD, Lance Storm, WWE’s lawyer Jerry McDevitt, and our own Chris Jericho all having featured.
