Tony Khan Reveals His Biggest Regret Since Launching AEW

Three years ago, the pro wrestling world lost Ring of Honor wrestler Jay Briscoe, who died in a car accident that also saw his daughters seriously injured. This would subsequently see Tony Khan pay tribute to the much-loved wrestler on Dynamite by having his brother and tag partner, Mark Briscoe, wrestle fellow ROH alumni Jay Lethal in the show’s main event. And now, during an interview with Robbie Fox, Khan has revealed that he considers not having Jay Briscoe appear on Dynamite himself to be his “biggest regret by far.

“I fought really hard to get Jay Briscoe on the show, and I fought really hard to have, there were multiple times where Mark and Jay Briscoe came to Dynamite and didn’t do anything. They just came, and I brought them, and I was trying to, I kept pulling moves. It was a different time. It was a different management. It wasn’t Mr. Zaslav. I could have now literally gone to him. I fought really, really hard to get Jay Briscoe on the show, but I really wish I’d been able to have Jay Briscoe on Dynamite just one time. And he came to the show many times. That’s my biggest regret by far.”Tony Khan

For those unaware, while Jay and Mark Briscoe had been spotted backstage at Dynamite, an influential person at WarnerMedia didn’t want the brothers signed due to the homophobic tweets made by Jay in 2011 and 2013. This was despite Jay calling these offensive tweets “the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious sh*t I’ve ever done” and requesting forgiveness. This would therefore leave Khan no other option but to book the brothers on his ROH brand, which, while notable, didn’t have the prominence or fanbase size of AEW.
