Tony Khan Responds To Goldberg’s Recent AEW Criticism

Bill Goldberg recently made headlines when he claimed that AEW’s product was “too cheesy” for him. What Goldberg means by this isn’t totally clear, but it certainly sounds like the WCW legend has no desire to ever work for the promotion. Still, in a new interview, Tony Khan addressed this criticism, noting that he had met with Goldberg several times and he previously wanted to work for AEW.  Additionally, Khan mentioned that he had allowed Goldberg’s friend Sting to go out on his terms.

“Bill wanted to work here. I met with Bill several times. Bill was looking to work here. It’s funny because I had a bunch of really nice meetings with Bill and would have honestly been interested in doing something. I have a lot of respect for Bill.

I was surprised by that because that certainly wasn’t what he said to me when he was talking to me about working here at some point, which I’ve always been open to, and I really like Bill. It’s all about timing, and we’re doing a lot of exciting things right now. Sting just finished up and went out on his own terms doing things he liked and felt strongly about.”

57-year-old Goldberg is currently doing a great job of burning bridges with the major companies in the business. As in addition to criticizing AEW, he recently blasted WWE for not giving him the retirement match he was promised. Therefore, it does appear his time in the big leagues is over, and any sendoff he gets will now need to be arranged by himself or a smaller promotion looking to capitalize on his fame.
