Tommaso Ciampa Confirms He’s Leaving WWE

Recently, it was reported that Tommaso Ciampa had decided to depart WWE at the end of his current contract, which shocked wrestling fans. And now the former NXT Champion has confirmed this himself on social media, declaring he’s “beyond excited” for what’s ahead. Precisely when his contract expires is unknown, but given the timing and wording, it appears to be imminent.

40-year-old Ciampa, whose real name is Tommaso Whitney, debuted on the indie scene in 2005 after training under Killer Kowalski, and fans really began to take notice of him in 2011 when he wrestled for ROH. Joining WWE’s NXT in 2015, he formed #DIY with Gargano, and together they captured the NXT Tag Team Championship. After a dramatic heel turn, he became a two-time NXT Champion, leading to his call-up to the main roster, where he secured two WWE Tag Team Championship reigns with Gargano.
