Having aged out of NXT once Vince McMahon decided to focus on youth, Tommaso Ciampa dyed his beard and began competing on Main Event before aligning with The Miz on Raw. However, having not wrestled since September 17th, it has now been revealed by the former NXT Champion himself he has been dealing with glute, back, and sacroiliac pain, which he has just undergone hip labrum surgery for. He would announce this on Instagram, and while appearing not to be too downbeat, he would call it the road to recovery “almost too familiar,” having previously suffered a ruptured ACL in 2018 and then undergoing anterior cervical neck fusion surgery in 2019.

The road to recovery begins. It’s a familiar road. Almost too familiar. Special thanks to Dr Emblom and his team for taking such incredible care of me. Thanks to the WWE medical team for once again putting me back together. And thanks to my ‘nurses’ at home for always giving me perspective. It took awhile but we finally found the cause to all of that glute/SI/back pain. A hip labrum that ‘looked like shredded cheese’ according to my wife, who watched the surgery.

As mentioned above, Ciampa’s WWE career has been ravaged by injuries, and the timing of this is awful, considering how short his run on the main roster has been. Nevertheless, it’s known that Triple H is a big supporter of the 37-year-old, so it seems likely that a position will be found for him when he is able to return. Although when that will be is currently unknown, as depending on how invasive the surgery was, recovery can take between four and nine months and requires extensive physical therapy sessions.
