The Undertaker Reveals Why Vince McMahon Edited Some Of His Promos

While never deemed a great promo man, considering his gimmick, few fans ever complained about The Undertaker’s mic work. Yet, despite promos not being a big part of his character, it turns out that Vince McMahon would still micromanage them. This was revealed by The Undertaker himself during the latest episode of his podcast, with the WWE Hall of Famer telling fans that if he let slip a “y’all,” the promo would be edited, and at times, he’d have to re-do in post-production.

“Vince told me on a couple of occasions while I was doing promos that I would let a ‘y’all’ slip out, like a southern drawl. Every once in a while, it would sneak into a promo, and they’d have to edit it. There were even a couple of times when I had to do a voiceover for my own promo because of it. Yeah, my drawl would come out a little too much. I was usually pretty good about controlling it, but every now and then, I’d get too worked up.”

It’s well-known that McMahon is a perfectionist and would try to control every aspect of a show, down to scripting promos, word for word. And while this makes sense in theory, in a live environment, it wasn’t always ideal, with Jon Moxley once saying, “Pressure is having a two-page script written by a 74-year-old madman that makes no sense to you.” However, in a post-McMahon WWE, it appears this has become less of an issue, with Triple H being far more open to talents improvising as long as they get across the key points.
