Pop superstar Mariah Carey recorded a secret grunge rock album in 1995. The details of the record were kept under wraps until Carey revealed in her memoir that the album, “Someone’s Ugly Daughter,” was released under the name Chick, and few if any people associated it with her. Carey was relegated to singing background vocals on the album, because her record label refused to release it with her as the lead vocalist.
This past weekend, Carey was honored as the MusicCares Person of the Year in a a star-studded gala. Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless was on hand, and she joined the Foo Fighters to perform two songs from the lost grunge album, “Hermit” and “Love Is A Scam.” In addition to the live performance, Momsen turned heads when she showed up to the event wearing a see through dress.
Carey could be seen enjoying herself and mouthing the words during the Momsen/Foo Fighters performance. “Someone’s Ugly Daughter” featured Clarissa Dane on lead vocals, and it’s rumored that the record could get an official release at some point in the future with newly-recorded vocal tracks from the pop icon.
