Teaser Trailer Released For “The Munsters”

Rob Zombie has released the first live action look of his upcoming reboot of “The Munsters.” Following numerous updates via Instagram including a detailed look at Herman Munster and various cast updates, Zombie talked to Entertainment Weekly about the movie and the decision to produce the film in color as opposed to the black and white look of the original ’60s series.

“I knew that if I went in and demanded ‘This movie’s going to be in black and white or forget it!’ we would not be talking about the Munsters right now, because it would have never happened,” Zombie said. “I guaran-f—ing-tee it. But what I did do is I made the colors sort of hyper-real. I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I was like, I have to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live action cartoon, which was really exciting.”

The teaser begins with a recreation of the classic intro in black and white before the characters are presented in full color. Recently, the original Eddie Munster, Butch Patrick, shared details on the movie’s length in an interview with the 20TIMinutes podcast. “This movie is going to kill in a really good way. It’s a very long movie, it’s like 2 hours and 38 minutes … but I’ve seen footage and I’ve seen where he’s going with it and it’s going to be great, it really is.”

The PG-rated film appears to be winding down production and is on target for a fall release. Recently, Zombie shared the full look of Herman Munster, played by Jeff Daniel Phillips. In an Instagram post with multiple slides, Zombie wrote: “Many of you have been commenting on Herman’s excellent makeup and asking how can I do this for my next cosplay? Well, here are the true Hollywood secrets! Now you can be a real deal Herman!” Zombie included what fans would need to make their own “Herman” look for a cosplay or Halloween costume.

The original, “The Munsters,” is also currently streaming on Peacock. The series was a ’60s television show based around a family of monsters in the style of a family sitcom. It ran on CBS from September 24, 1964 to May 12, 1966, with 70 episodes produced. Its cancelation came when “Batman” starring Adam West, went head to head with the show causing ratings to decline significantly. Following a failed attempt to revive the show with original cast members in 1981, a further renewal came to fruition in the form of “The Munsters Today,” which ran from 1988 to 1991 with 73 episodes.
