Taz Pays Tribute To Sabu Following His Untimely Death

Over the years, Sabu had memorable matches with many of the biggest names in the business. However, arguably his most important career match was at Barely Legal in 1997 against Taz, with many fans believing it should have been the show’s main event. And now, following Sabu’s sad passing at just 60, Taz has shared a video on X, paying tribute to his former rival, acknowledging that he made his career.

I would not have had the career that I have had, and I’ve been blessed to have if it wasn’t for Sabu. Like that man got me over and he didn’t have to get me over, and he did …  My job was to come in for one match and wrestle him and put him over, and Sabu didn’t have to let me do anything in that match.

He could have just, you know, it was about him, not about me. And he was so grateful to me and I’ll never forget it. Even though we became very deep rivalry, love hate type thing. But more love than hate.Taz

While Sabu and Taz’s match at Barely Legal is their best known, the pair shared a ring over 40 times in the ’90s as opponents and even tag partners on occasion. Therefore, it’s understandable that Taz has been hit so hard by Sabu’s death, as have many of his ECW breathen, including RVD, The Blue Meanie, and CW Anderson.
