The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, the new definitive, 4-part docu-series airing on Amazon Prime, charts the 35-year career of Canada’s favorite sons, the Hip, and was directed by Mike Downie, brother of late Hip frontman Gord Downie. Mike and brother Patrick talk about the decision to make the doc after Gord’s passing, the role that Hip manager Jake Gold played in the decision and process, the vision Jake outlined in 2020 regarding the legacy of The Tragically Hip, and why it took four years for the project to come to fruition. Mike explains how he secured so much of the incredible footage, including the band’s first performance at Maple Leaf Gardens, the Super 8 film of their early onstage performances at the Lakeview Manor, their infamous Saturday Night Live performance, and the band’s final tour before Gord passed from brain cancer.
