Early on Tuesday, Linkin Park fans connected a pair of announcements and speculated that Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley could be the replacement for late frontman Chester Bennington. Linkin Park launched a countdown timer on their social media accounts that fans are expecting will end on Wednesday with an announcement of a new singer and tour.
Sum 41’s social media teased that a “Deryck Whibley announcement” was also coming on Wednesday leading to the rumor. Whibley has taken to social media, however, to announce that’s not the case.
“I feel the need to dispel some current rumours,” Whibley wrote. “It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter. I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of our U.S. tour. I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
Orgy frontman Jay Gordon hinted previously that Linkin Park would continue with a female lead singer. It doesn’t appear fans will have to wait long to see if that’s indeed the case.
