Sting Set To Retire Once His AEW Contract Expires

Sting is one of the biggest icons in pro wrestling history, and while he has been a star everywhere he has worked, aged 63, his time in the ring is clearly coming to its conclusion. And now it has been revealed in a great deep dive in DMagazine.com that he plans to retire when his current AEW contract expires this year. However, neither his plan nor the date were revealed.

His deal with AEW expires sometime this year; he won’t say exactly when. When it ends, so will his time behind the face paint.

Sting made his AEW debut in December 2020, a whole 19 years after he previously had wrestled on TNT when with WCW, and most fans thought he would simply be a nostalgic onscreen character. This is because it was believed he’d retired following injuries sustained during a match in WWE against Seth Rollins. Since then, though, he has competed over a dozen times alongside Darby Allin after a cinematic match went so well. And while his matches are now typically part of the undercard, it’s hard to imagine that Sting won’t get one last hurrah in the main event when the time comes.
