Thanks to a dominant Royal Rumble performance, current Intercontinental Champion Gunther is near the top of the card in WWE. And now it has been reported by WrestleVotes that WWE is discussing putting him in for a big triple-threat title defense match against both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 39. It should, though, be noted this isn’t set in stone yet and plans regularly change in WWE, especially when it comes to WrestleMania.
It was previously reported that WWE was positioning Gunther as Brock Lesnar’s WrestleMania opponent, which would have been a dream match to many. However, as Lesnar has since commenced a program with Bobby Lashley, it now appears The Beast and The Intercontinental Champion won’t be locking up anytime soon. Still, with Lesnar needing fresh and believable opponents over the remainder of his contract, it seems inevitable he and Gunther will eventually square off.
