Earlier this month, Slayer guitarist Kerry King released the debut single from the solo project bearing his name. King talked to Rolling Stone about this forthcoming album, “From Hell I Rise,” which is due on May 17.
He talked about a variety of subjects including his relationship with bassist Tom Araya, and King again voiced his displeasure about Slayer’s retirement, which he felt was premature.
King was also asked if Slayer might ever tour again. “I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen,” he said. “Could Slayer play a show again? I’m sure there’s a scenario. Am I looking for it? No, I’m just getting ready to start my career. So if that happens, it happens. But I’m going to be doing this for the next 10 years at least.”
In news that surprised pretty much no one, Slayer announced they have officially reunited and will return to the stage in September for at least two shows. The concerts will mark the first time the band has played since 2019. “Nothing compares to the 90 minutes when we’re on stage playing live, sharing that intense energy with our fans,” Araya said, “and to be honest, we have missed that.” King added: “Have I missed playing live? Absolutely. Slayer means a lot to our fans; they mean a lot to us. It will be five years since we have seen them.”
Slayer will perform Sept. 22 at Riot Fest in Chicago and Sept. 27 at Louder Than Life in Louisville. “We’re thrilled to announce that SLAYER will be reuniting for an earth-shattering performance at Louder Than Life,” said Danny Wimmer of Danny Wimmer Presents. “I was at their last show at The Forum in 2019 and have been working since then to bring them back to the Louder stage! With over 140 bands on five stages, we’re celebrating our 10th Louder Than Life with the biggest lineup yet!”
Sirius XM DJ Eddie Trunk responded to the news saying: “Proving my theory that no band ever is done no matter what they say, welcome back @Slayer. They were just announced on the @LTLFest lineup. Along with @MotleyCrue. 2 bands that swore they were done ha!”
