Earlier this week, singer-songwriter Michelle Branch tweeted and then deleted a message accusing her husband, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, of cheating on her while she was at home with their 6-month-old baby. Branch told People magazine that they have separated. “To say that I am totally devastated doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel for myself and for my family. The rug has been completely pulled from underneath me and now I must figure out how to move forward. With such small children, I ask for privacy and kindness.”
TMZ also reported that Branch was arrested earlier this week at their home. According to documents, police arrived around 2 a.m. to investigate a possible domestic disturbance. Branch admitted she had slapped Carney “one to two times” across his face. Her bail was set at $1,000 and she was later released from custody. Carney had no visible injuries according the documents. Also according to court documents, Branch’s 12-hour hold was modified because she is currently breastfeeding her 6-month-old infant. Branch is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 7 for a settlement.
Branch and Carney welcomed a daughter on Feb. 2. “She’s named after Patrick’s loving grandmother, Willie Madge Slate, and her middle name, Jacquet, is Michelle’s mother Peggy’s maiden name,” the couple said in a statement at the time. The Black Keys released their “Dropout Boogie” album in May and have been touring in support of the record. Branch also recently released the single “I’m a Man” from her upcoming album, “The Trouble With Fever,” which is due Sept. 16. The track was co-produced by Carney, and Branch is also set for a fall tour.
