To some wrestlers, one of the big pluses of working for AEW over WWE to has always been the option to work indies if the dates don’t clash. Now though, things are changing, at least for NXT talents, as going forward, they will be allowed to work for select independents, as per Bryan Alvarez. The wrestling podcaster and journalist confirmed this, as well as Ivy Nile already being booked for Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling via his Twitter account.
Precisely who qualifies as “select” independents remains to be seen, but there will likely be restrictions, such as NXT talents being unable to lose or face AEW wrestlers. Additionally, whether the matches will be permitted to air will also be interesting. Nevertheless, this is quite a significant change for NXT and should present some intriguing matchups in the future.
