When CM Punk first re-signed with WWE, a big talking point was would ever work a show in Saudi Arabia after previously telling The Miz to suck a “blood money-covered d*ck.” Yet, while it initially appeared that Punk would stand by his principles, having skipped the first few shows in the country, for reasons only known to him and WWE management, he agreed to work this weekend’s Night of Champions premium live event.
And now, after he controversially publicly apologized to fans for his past “mean tweet to The Miz” at a pre-Night of Champions event, it has been reported by Dave Meltzer that the one in attendance who promoted him to issue the apology, and he hugged following the show, was actually a plant by WWE.
46-year-old CM Punk made his name based on his punk ideologies, building a huge fan base thanks to his views on individual liberty, anti-authoritarianism, and non-conformity. However, many now believe he has “sold out” for the sake of the mighty dollar, abandoning these beliefs to secure the WWE push he had dreamed of during his first run. Of course, if this is the case, it is totally within Punk’s rights to do this, although he has likely lost some fans along the way who believed he was more than a gimmick.
