Scott D’Amore’s New Promotion Is Official With Multiple Talents Announced For First Show

Even wrestling fans who didn’t follow TNA were surprised when news broke earlier this year that their President, Scott D’Amore, had been fired by Anthem Sports & Entertainment. At the time, no explanation was shared regarding why the popular former wrestler and manager had been shown the door. However, it was later suggested that D’Amore had been pushing for a bigger budget to work with.

Still, as the saying goes, you can’t keep a good man down, and after filing a trademark application three months ago to bring back Canadian wrestling promotion Maple Leaf Wrestling, the rebooted company has officially launched with a tweet confirming its name will be Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling. Why “Pro” has been added isn’t confirmed, although it’s presumably to avoid confusion with Major League Wrestling. Additionally, it was announced that the new promotion’s first show will take place in October and feature notable names, including Jinder Mahal, Kushisda, Josh Alexander, and Gisele Shaw.

For those unaware, Maple Leaf Wrestling was initially formed in 1930 by Jack Corcoran, although John and Frank Tunney took over in 1939. Subsequently, some of the biggest names of the time would compete for the promotion, including The Sheik, Ric Flair, Gene Kiniski, Fritz Von Erich, Bruno Sammartino, and Haystack Calhoun. However, despite working with the National Wrestling Alliance and Mid-Atlantic Wrestling for many years,  John Tunney’s son, Jack, would eventually partner with the WWF in 1984, which famously led to him becoming the promotions figurehead and on-air president.
