Ryback has taken to X.com to publicly support his former WWE tag team partner Joe Hennig, better known as Curtis Axel, after his recent DUI arrest. The former superstar reflected fondly on their RybAxel partnership as one of the most enjoyable times in his WWE career. Ryback also described the third generation as a great man and a devoted father to his three boys.
“While it wasn’t a time when I was featured as heavily as I had been before or would be afterward, it was one of the most enjoyable runs of my career. Working with Joe was easy. The chemistry was real, and I genuinely believe our backstage vignettes were some of the best promo work either of us ever did … Joe Hennig is a great man and a great father to his three boys. None of us are perfect, and we all make mistakes in life. I’m not condoning poor decisions, but I thank God nobody was injured or killed.” – Ryback
The RybAxel duo formed in late 2013, when the former Paul Heyman Guys turned on their mentor. They subsequently earned several title opportunities, including a fatal four-way at TLC 2013 and another at the WrestleMania XXX pre-show. Active until mid-2014, the team never won the gold but delivered consistent performances with entertaining backstage vignettes.
