For many fans, Tony Schiavone is the voice of AEW, and therefore, it was very unexpected that he wasn’t commentating on this week’s episode I’d Dynamite. However, despite there being speculation online he may been removed from his position because of a now-deleted tweet aimed at New Japan’s Chris Charlton, Dave Meltzer has shot down this rumor, telling his listeners that Schiavone just had a family situation.
“He wasn’t on the show tonight, and it’s nothing big or anything like that. When he wasn’t there, I started getting all these people going like, ‘Oh my God, did he get suspended for that tweet?’ But it was just a family situation. He’s fine, he’ll be back, you know, I presume on Saturday.”
Dave MeltzerEarlier this week, Schiavone caused controversy on X when he told Chris Charlton to “GFY” and questioned his personal hygiene. This was in response to Charlton calling Tony Khan a “money mark” during this past weekend’s Wrestle Dynasty over event. And while Schiavone would go on to delete the tweet, some felt a person in his position shouldn’t be escalating a situation that both New Japan and AEW want to move on from.
