When Adam Copeland came to AEW, he hoped to reunite with his best friend and former tag partner Christian Cage. Copeland eventually stated his case to Cage in the ring, and the two men embraced, seemingly putting aside their differences.
Seconds later, however, Cage said “Go f*ck yourself,” concluding an interaction that soon went viral. Cage talked about the moment in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet (transcribed by Inside The Ropes): “When he hugged me, and most of the time, 99.9% of the time, you’d hear somebody say no, yes or no. I wanted to leave people’s jaws on the floor with my response, something so out of left field that they weren’t gonna believe that was my response to my childhood lifelong friend. Closer than friends, brothers. I just wanted something that would just get people talking, and it did.”
Cage thought the moment would resonate with fans, but he didn’t expect it to get as big as it did. The clip also caught the eye of Tool guitarist Adam Jones, who gave Cage a taste of his own medicine while the band was performing a soundcheck.
Cage explained: “I expected it to be big, I didn’t expect it to be as viral as it was. It went beyond wrestling. I was at a Tool concert. I went in to watch soundcheck and the guitarist Adam Jones, I could see him whispering to his security guy that knew that I was there. And he pointed over to me. He’s playing, getting ready for his big show. He looks at me and goes ‘Go f*ck yourself’ from the stage. Yeah, it resonated with people.”
