Robert Roode Has Undergone Serious Neck Surgery

In September, Robert Roode underwent an unspecified orthopedic procedure at Southlake Orthopaedics in Birmingham, Alabama. However, as he was spotted backstage at subsequent WWE events, the hope was that it wasn’t serious, and he may be returning in the coming months, having not wrestled since June. Now though, the 46-year-old has revealed the unfortunate news that he has undergone another surgery this past week, which was neck fusion surgery, which is what sidelined Kyle O’Reilly, Kurt Angle, Trent Beretta, and numerous others for extended periods.

Roode departed TNA after 12 years and almost 800 matches in 2016 and somewhat surprisingly signed with WWE a few months later to be part of their NXT brand. He would go on to win the NXT Championship from Shinsuke Nakamura, becoming the oldest NXT champion in the process. Then following a seven-month reign that ended at the hands of Drew McIntyre, he would begin to transition to SmackDown while still wrestling NXT matches. Once on the main roster, he would become a solid midcarder holding the United States Championship before becoming a tag team competitor holding championship gold, first with Chad Gable and then Dolph Ziggler as The Dirty Dawgs.
