Rob Van Dam is perhaps known best for his time as a standout in ECW throughout the latter half of the ’90s. Van Dam had memorable feuds with Jerry Lynn, Sabu and Bam Bam Bigelow, among many others, and he carried multiple championships for the promotion.

Van Dam would later work for WWE, TNA and various independent promotions, and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021.

The 52-year-old Michigan native also recently made his return to the ring for AEW to set up a feud with Jack Perry. Van Dam came out to defend Jerry Lynn, and he surprised fans not only with his appearance but by coming out to his longtime signature tune in ECW, “Walk” by Pantera.

Van Dam told Inside The Ropes about the experience and how stoked was that Tony Khan and AEW secured the rights to “Walk.”

“That was awesome,” he said. “Yeah, when I found out that he was gonna have the rights ‘Walk,’ it just like put me in a different vibe. You know what I mean? Just just knowing the reaction that that was going to get and how the fans would be emotionally connected to that, you know, let it play for a few seconds.”

Van Dam didn’t know he was going to enter to the song until the night of his AEW appearance and assumed he would enter to another song.

”And then it wasn’t until a little while, hour or so, within the first hour when I was at the building when that just changed,” he explained. “I was like, ‘What? Wait, how? Is this updated? Because I just yesterday … sweet!’ I was like, ‘That’s awesome.’ So yeah, I read some of the comments on social media for, for people saying like brought tears to their eyes and stuff like that. It’s pretty cool.”
