This past weekend Ronda Rousey and Shotzi Blackheart put on a pretty poor match at Survivor Series, which saw the hashtag #FireRondaRousey subsequently trend on Twitter. However, it appears that Ric Flair didn’t think the former UFC star was to blame, as, on his podcast, he would note that her opponents have to carry their weight in the match, seemingly taking a shot a Shotzi Blackheart. Who some have previously claimed has been exposed as a not-very-good wrestler once called up to the main roster.
I think Ronda is fabulous. Who doesn’t like her again? I have to agree, I like Ronda personally. I think, you know, sometimes the need to look at who she is wrestling against, you know what I mean? You’re not going to get the same match out of Ronda every time. The opponent’s got to be able to carry their weight too.
Ric FlairThis isn’t the first time the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion has faced criticism following a high-profile match. As at Money In The Bank, the women’s ladder match featured enough slips and errors to fill an entire episode of Botchamania, and while not solely responsible, Shotzi Blackheart received much of the backlash. Some fans would go as far as to say she should be fired due to almost injuring Alexa Bliss, and she would acknowledge on Twitter this had left her in tears before deactivating her account. And while harsh, Shotzi does need to improve her ring work significantly, so perhaps Flair’s comments will hit home.
