In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, readers would vote Ric Flair’s Last Match as the third Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic of 2022. And while typically, those who are nominated for such controversial awards never comment, that isn’t Flair’s style, and he has gone on a profanity-filled rant against those who voted for him. Noting he made a whopping $300,000 by disgusting the fans. Which considering the show was available on pay-per-view and drew 6,800 fans for a live gate of $448,502 is more than believable.
You know what I got to say to that? I made three hundred thousand dollars. Go f*ck yourselves. That’s right, I made three hundred thousand dollars, disgusting you. Disgust yourself for three hundred grand and get in the shape that I got in. How about that, motherf*ckers?Ric Flair
While the concept of a last match wasn’t really offensive, the fact Flair was known to be in poor health going in did have many fans concerned. Nevertheless, the fact Flair teased having a heart attack did leave a bad taste in many fans’ mouths, and the fact he legitimately passed out twice due to depredation does make it understandable why readers of Dave Meltzer’s newsletter would be “disgusted” regardless of how much Flair earnt.
